Parent Education on Saturday 12/14: Parenting in a Violent World
Programs
Our core programs run Monday through Friday, and families may choose to attend 3, 4, or 5 days a week. Our classrooms are divided by age, each with a teacher, an assistant(s) and helping parents.
In addition, TCS offers early morning and afternoon care for children in need of extended hours outside of our core programs. Families can also choose to enroll in the afternoon program to create a full-day experience for their child.
School enrollment is limited to keep student-teacher ratios small. Children must be potty-trained to enroll at TCS.
Toddler Program
Schedule:
8:30am-12:00pm
Age:
24 months old by Sept. 1 of the enrollment year
Class Size:
10-12 children per day
In their first preschool experience, two-year-olds in our toddler program explore all areas of development, with an emphasis on social-emotional learning. Young children thrive in our play-based environment while exploring mathematics, science, literacy, play and project work.
Preschool Program
Schedule:
8:30am-2:30pm
Age:
3-5 years old
Class Size:
15-18 children per day
In our multi-age preschool classrooms, three-, four- and five-year-olds participate in project work that builds on each child’s knowledge, with a focus on kindergarten readiness. Children participate in activities that stimulate intellectual curiosity and promote each child’s positive self-concept. Through the self-satisfaction that arises with discovery and mastery of new experiences, children build a life-long love of learning.
Extended Care
Before Care:
7:30am - 8:30am
After Care:
12:00pm - 5:30pm
2:30pm – 5:30pm
Our extended morning care gives children the opportunity to play and get settled in at school before the morning programs begin. The afternoon program includes lunch, a period of rest or quiet time, and the opportunity to learn and play with children from other classrooms. Families provide a sack lunch, and at 3pm, TCS provides afternoon snack.
These extended care programs provide childcare for children who are in need of extended hours outside of our core programs. These programs have a limited amount of space and are prioritized for families with both parents working outside of the home or a single working parent.
Tucson Community School is proud to share that we are one of just a handful of Southern Arizona preschools to receive a 5 Star ranking from Quality First.
This signature program of First Things First, Arizona's early childhood agency, partners with childcare and preschool providers to improve the quality of early learning across Arizona.
"My son had never been to daycare or a classroom setting before attending TCS. This past fall, he joined the 'young 3s' classroom. I did not know what to expect, and I have been absolutely floored by the growth I have seen in my son after his first year. The administration and teachers work passionately to create a true child-centered community. TCS is a magical and loving space for young children, and our family is grateful to be part of the TCS community."

"TCS is an absolute gem — a warm and engaging play-based program that values outdoor play and independent, creative thinking. As soon as I toured TCS, I knew I had found something magical. The teachers were inviting and knowledgeable, the classrooms intentional and engaging, and the outdoor spaces inspiring. As southern Arizona's only parent-cooperative preschool, the community bond is unparalleled. The parent body is down-to-earth and engaged. I feel so lucky that my children are able to grow and learn in an environment that truly understands and values the experiences of children. TCS has been the biggest gift to our family!"

"As an early childhood teacher, I did a lot of searching when it was time to pick a preschool. I knew I wanted an emphasis on outdoor play and inquiry-based learning which still had structure and routines. This is our third year at TCS and I can honestly say it has been one of the best things that has happened to our son. His teachers have been kind, caring, and extremely gifted in their teaching and he has thrived socially, emotionally and academically. TCS is more than just 'our son's school' — it is our community and extended family and I can't recommend it highly enough."
