Mary Sue Houser, Director
Mrs. Houser is excited to begin her first year as director of TCS. She is a Tucson native and an alumna of TCS.
She has a BA in Education from Smith College and a Master’s of Library Science from the Catholic University of America.
She comes to us from having started and directed a child care center in Willcox, AZ. Mrs. Houser has
been an educator, librarian, and educational consultant in southeastern Arizona for over 20 years.
Reena Mahoney, Administrative Assistant and Treasurer
Mrs. Mahoney begins her 25th year as TCS's administrative assistant. Reena was a parent at the school, a TCS
Board of Directors President and she has taken computer course work.
Cheryl Lazaroff, Assistant Director, Teacher of A2 and A3 Groups and Teacher of Extended Day
Mrs. Lazaroff returns for her 33rd year to teach the three-year-olds and the Extended Day Program. She received
her B.A. degree from the College of Notre Dame, Belmont, California, following studies at Goucher and
Haverford Colleges. She has a lifetime Child Development Programs Certificate from California.
Dee Harding, Assistant Teacher of A3 and A2 Groups and Extended Day
Mrs. Harding was born and raised in Arizona. She is very excited to start her third year as a TCS assistant teacher
and to continue her studies towards a Child Development Associate certificate.
Kathy Sjogren, Teacher of B Group (East Room) and Extended Day
Mrs. Sjogren is thrilled to be starting her 4th year at TCS after having been away for eleven years. Kathy
received a B.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies from U of A in 1978 and a Child Development Associate
certification in 1991. There is not an animal alive that Kathy doesn’t love.
Gail Abbott, Assistant Teacher of B Group, (East Room) - Mon, Tues, Wed.
Mrs. Abbott is starting her 2nd year at TCS. She has a background in Special Education and has 20 years of
experience working in elementary and early childhood.
Amanda Tronsdal, Assistant Teacher (East Room) – Thursday and Friday and Extended Day
Mrs. Tronsdal starts her 1st year on the TCS staff . Being a part of TCS for the last two years has spurred a deep
interest of working closely with preschool aged children. Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the
University of Arizona and a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification from the Providence Institute. Studying and
teaching yoga is her passion and is looking forward to especially sharing that with the children.
Barbara George, Teacher of B Group (West Room)
Mrs. George, a past TCS parent starts her 12th year at TCS. She is so excited to begin her first year as teacher in
the B group. She has a degree from the U of A in Rehabilitation and Psychology. She has worked with children
in different capacities for over 22 years. Before coming to TCS, she worked at Child and Family Resources as an
after-school Recreation Director involving children with special needs.
Lynnea Molina, Assistant Teacher of B Group (West Room) and Extended Day
Ms. Molina is extremely excited to be starting her second year at TCS. She is currently a student at Northern Arizona University (through their distance-learning program), working on her degree in Elementary Education, and an Early Childhood Endorsement. She has spent the last several years working with children of all ages, ranging from infants to high school students. Lynnea spent many years both as a volunteer and Training Director for the Tucson Chapter of Amigos de las Americas, where she was lucky enough to travel to many countries in Latin America, and pick up on some Spanish.
Susan Whiting, Kindergarten Teacher
Susan started at Tucson Community School as a parent nine years ago and has never left. She has served the school in varying capacities and has taught kindergarten at the school for four years. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Arizona in 1994, she taught kindergarten at Gale Elementary as well as Wheeler Elementary in TUSD.
Barbara Isaacson, Kindergarten Teacher
Barbara is glad to be starting her 1st year as part of TCS. She has taught 4 year olds, Kindergarten, a 3rd-4th-5th grade multi-age classroom, 5th grade and 6th grade in the TUSD and Vail school districts.
Connie Frasquillo, Assistant Teacher of Kindergarten and Extended Day
Ms. Frasquillo starts her 2nd year as an assistant teacher of Kindergarten. Connie has been working with children consecutively for 37 years. She has been worked at the Beginning School as well as being a nanny for Choice Care. Connie facilitates Divorce Recovery groups, an Al-Anon group at the women’s prison, works with the Al-Ateen program, and is active in her church.
Monica Lopez, Assistant Teacher of B Group, (East Room) – Second Semester
Mrs. Lopez is happy to be starting as a staff member at TCS after having been a substitute in all the classrooms.
She's busy advocating for special education and teaching a children's class at her church. Working as a bilingual elementary teacher kept her busy before she became a mom. She's a U of A alum.
Vicky Empey, Assistant Teacher, Extended Day
Ms. Empey is very excited to start her 2nd year as Extended Day Assistant. She earned a BA in Animation, Graphic Design, and Illustration at the Art Center Design Collage. Ms. Empey is currently working on a degree and certification in early childhood education. She has spent the last five years working with 2-5 year olds, has taught art, and enjoys helping children learn.
